DIY Network - Do it yourself Making Home Movies Series

DIY Network is showing a series on "Making Home Movies" starting on 2/19. Looks pretty interesting, I have to see if we get the DIY network on our cable. Shows are "Videotaping Interviews", "Saving Videos and Films" and "Saving Pictures." I like the DIY network website because if you don't watch the shows, you can still get plenty of info and how-tos from the site. Takes less time to scan the website and you don't have to sit through the irrelevant stuff.

Nikon Servicing

So I sent my Nikon Coolpix 4300 out for servicing. The lens was stuck and it said 'system error.' I got the repair estimate this week - $155.00. uh....I think it's time to start shopping for a new digital camera. Fun, but what a bummer. I really liked that one actually and was quite happy with it. Now the question is do I go again for a small point and shoot with good quality and decent megapixels or for a higher-end DSLR?

CNET Building the Perfect Baby Video Part II

Oh, and by the way, if you are building that perfect baby video, please don't follow CNET's advice and use Louis Amstrong's "What a Wonderful World." I love it too, but let's shoot for some originality, eh? If you are into newer music, you might like John Mayer's "Daughters" - but let's face it, that will quickly become overplayed and the go-to song. So maybe the trick is to find different ways to incorporate those into your videos.

CNET Building the Perfect Baby Video

CNET has a weekend projects section, including one section on Digital Photo and Video. It has a few how-tos on creating home videos, including Building the perfect baby video. Pretty cool, nice overview. Now just try to find the time to get it done.

New Digital Cameras

Here is a great review of digital cameras of the near and not-so-near future, from the New York Times' David Pogue. I just sent My Nikon Coolpix 4300 back to the shop for the second time. A great camera, I really love it. It has lots of great features and although many digital cameras are really upping the megapixels, 4.0 is actually good enough for my purposes. Anyway, there are some cool new things coming out. I wonder should I just skip the repair and jump onto a new camera? It certainly is tempting.
